Russell Oil, Inc. was incorporated January 1987 in Russell, Kansas as an operating company whose purpose was to assume operations of a group of oil and gas properties acquired by the company founders from Pioneer Operations Co, Inc.


From inception the focus of operations for Russell Oil, Inc. has been in the relatively shallow and profitable Mid-Continent region of the United States. December 29, 2011

On December 8, 2011 the Kansas Corporation Commission approved the intent to drill for the Deanna E #1-28 (800’ FNL, 330’ FWL, Sec. 28-T15S-R34W). The well is scheduled to spud January 15, 2012 with HD Drilling, LLC providing rotary tools. Projected rotary total depth is 4850’ in the Mississippi formation. Kitt Noah is slated for well site geological services.


December 16, 2011
Yesterday the Eveleigh South #3 (NW/4 Sec. 22-T17S-R14W, Barton County, KS) was placed back into production after a work over to repair casing leaks. A full length 4 ½” liner was run and cemented in place. Express Well Service provided pulling unit services. The well was successfully returned to production from the Arbuckle formation.


November 15, 2011
The Enochs #1-19 commenced pump testing today. The well is located in the NE/4 Sec. 19-T20S-R5W, McPherson County, KS. Production formation, perforations and initial production rates have not been released.


October 16, 2011

The Moeder Unit A #1 (2530’ FSL; 2550’ FWL Sec. 22-T11S-R34W, Logan County, KS) was plugged and abandoned as a dry hole today. The well reached a RTD of 4780’. Derek Patterson provided geological well site supervision; HD Drilling, Inc. provided rotary tools.


October 12, 2011
On October 12, 2011 the Steinle #2-32 (330’ FNL, 1815’ FEL Sec. 32-T15S-R14W) reached a rotary total depth of 3460’. 5 ½” production casing was set in the Arbuckle formation. The well was completed and placed in production November 3, 2011 was spud by Southwind Drilling, Inc. Rig #6. The well has a projected RTD of 3450’. Initial production rates are 50 BOPD, 40 BWPD from undisclosed perforations.


October 5, 2011
HD Drilling, LLC Rig #2 spud the Moeder Unit A #1 (2530’ FSL; 2550’ FWL Sec. 22-T11S-R34W, Logan County, KS) today. The well has a projected RTD of 4900’. Derek Patterson will provide geological well site supervision.

Production commenced on the Anderson #2-31 (2080’ FSL; 1120’ FWL Sec. 31-T10S-R34W, Thomas County, KS) today. The reported Initial production rate, from undisclosed perforations, is 30 BOPD, 0 BWPD. This well is the second producing well drilling in the newly discovered Anderson Field. Outlaw Well Service provided completion tools.


October 3, 2011
In Russell County, the Steinle #2-32 (330’ FNL, 1815’ FEL Sec. 32-T15S-R14W) was spud by Southwind Drilling, Inc. Rig #6. The well has a projected RTD of 3450’ in the Arbuckle formation. Kitt Noah will provide geological well site supervision.


September 7, 2011
Production casing is being run and cemented in the Anderson #2-31 today. The well reached 4900’ RTD in the Mississippian formation yesterday. H2 Drilling LLC Rig #2 provided rotary drilling services. The well, located in Section 31-T10S-R35W, Thomas County,  is the second well drilling in the newly discovered Anderson Field. Derek Patterson was well site geologist.

The Russell-Dell Unit #1 (2670’ FSL; 990’ FWL Sec. 35-T10S-R34W, Thomas County, KS) well was plugged and abandoned as a dry hole today. The well reached a rotary total depth of 4832’. HD Drilling, LLC Rig #2 provided drilling services. Steve Angle provided well site geological supervision.


August 17, 2011
The Ukens #1-18 (990’ FSL; 1650’ FWL Sec. 18-T20S-R5W, McPherson, KS) was placed on production today. The well was completed August 8, 2011 with Express Well Service over the hole. Basic Energy Services designed and provided a 3700 barrel Slick-Water frac on the Mississippi zone. The well is currently being pump tested.

We are pleased to announce that Makal Brown has joined Russell Oil, Inc. as Office Manager effective August 1, 2011.  Makel has been working on a contract basis through an arrangement with Express Personnel Services. At the conclusion of a 3 month contract with Express Personnel, Makel was offered a full time position.


August 1, 2011
The Anderson #2-31 well is scheduled for drilling August 19, 2011. Wichita based H 2 Drilling will provide rotary tools. The Anderson #2-31 (2080’ FSL; 1120’ FWL Sec. 31-T10S-R34W, Thomas County, KS) is the second well to be drilled on the Anderson lease, a wildcat new field discovery well drilled in May 2011. The new field, which has yet to be formally named, is located approximately 3 miles southwest of the Murfin Drilling Towns Field, and 4 ½ miles west of the Russell Oil Seele Field. Steven P. Murphy is slated as well site geologist for this test. Murphy also provided well site services on the field discovery well, Anderson #1-31.


June 29, 2011

HD Drilling, LLC  Rig #2 is scheduled to move in on the Russell-Dell Unit #1 (2670’ FSL; 990’ FWL Sec. 35-T10S-R34W, Thomas County, KS) and commence drilling August 3, 2011, weather permitting. The Russell-Dell Unit #1 well is a wildcat test of an anomaly separated by dry holes from the Russell Oil discovered Seele Field located in the SE/4 of Sec. 35 and SE/4 Sec. 36, located in T10S-R34W, Thomas County, KS. Geologist Steve Angle will provide well site geological supervision. Projected total depth is 4875’, a depth anticipated to encounter the Mississippi formation. Kansas City, Cherokee and Mississippi formations will be evaluated as potential pay zones.


June 27, 2011

The Addington #1-1 was spud July 14, 2011 by Southwind Drilling, Inc Rig #4. The well was drilled to a rotary total depth of 3485’, a depth sufficient to test in upper Arbuckle formation. Although several shows we tested throughout drilling, the well was plugged and abandoned as a dry hole on July 24, 2011 based on negative sample, drill stem test and log evaluation. Steve Angle of Hays, KS served as well site geologist.


June 23, 2011
Southwind Drilling, Inc. is scheduled to commence drilling the Addington #1-1 (SW/4 Sec. 1-T16S-R15W, Barton County, KS) on June 29, 2011. According to Todd Morgenstern, Southwind Drilling VP/Operations, this will be the first well for Southwind Rig #6 since being readied for service. Ellinwood, KS based Southwind Drilling, Inc. now operates 6 rotary rigs providing service to Kansas exploration companies.

Production casing was run and cemented yesterday on the Production casing has been run in Ukens #1-18 (990’ FSL; 1650’ FWL Sec. 18-T20S-R5W, McPherson, KS).  The well reached 3400’ RTD in the Mississippian formation. Completion operations are currently being scheduled.


June 19, 2011

The intent to drill for the Addington #1-1 (1080’ FSL; 330’ FWL Sec. 1-T16S-R15W, Barton County, KS) was approved by the Kansas Corporation Commission. Southwind Drilling, Inc. rotary tools are scheduled to commence drilling by month end.


June 14, 2011

Southwind Drilling, Inc. has commenced drilling the Ukens #1-18 (990’ FSL; 1650’ FWL Sec. 18-T20S-R5W, McPherson, KS). The well has a projected RTD of 3400’ in the Mississippi formation.


June 5, 2011

Production commenced June 1, 2011 on the Anderson #1-31 (2290’ FSL; 1810 FWL Sec. 31-T10S-R34W) in Thomas County, Kansas. Initial production of 60 BOPD, 0 BWPD was reported from undisclosed perforations. This wildcat well will open a new, yet unnamed, field in Thomas County.


June 3, 2011

Production casing has been set on the Enochs #1-19(2310’ FNL; 1980’ FEL Sec. 19-T20S-R5W, McPherson County, KS). Casing was set at 3345’ in the Mississippi. The well is currently waiting on completion operations to commence.


June 1, 2011

In Barton County, KS production has commenced on the A-R Unit #1 (2700’ FSL; 2310’ FWL Sec.1-T16S-R15W). Initial production rates of 15 BOPD, 5 BWPD were reported from undisclosed Lansing-Kansas City perforations.


May 28, 2011

Southwind Drilling, Inc. Rig #4 commenced drilling on the Enochs #1-19 (2310’ FNL; 1980’ FEL Sec. 19-T20S-R5W, McPherson County, KS). Projected RTD is 3400’ in the Mississippi formation.


May 12, 2011

Production casing is being run today on the Anderson #1-31 (2290’ FSL; 1810 FWL Sec. 31-T10S-R34W) in Thomas County, Kansas. The well reached a RTD of 4979’RTD in the Mississippian formation.  This wildcat well is located approximately 2 miles from the nearest production in the recently discovered Murfin Drilling “Towns Field”.

In Barton County, KS production equipment is being run in to place the A-R Unit #1 on production. After a successful completion in undisclosed zones, the setting of surface equipment is being scheduled. It is anticipated the well will be online and producing within 2 weeks.


May 11, 2011

The recently drilled and completed Hubert Keil #4 well commenced production on May 10, 2011. The Hubert Keil #4 (S/2 NW/4 Sec. 32-T15S-R14W) is located ½ mile south of the town of Milberger in southwest Russell County.  Initial production, from undisclosed Kansas City perforations, is reported at 30 BOPD, 0 BWPD.


May 3, 2011

H2 Drilling, LLC Rig #2 has commenced drilling the Anderson #1-31 (2290’ FSL; 1810 FWL Sec. 31-T10S-R34W) in Thomas County, Kansas. The projected RTD is 4800’ in the Mississippian formation.  Current drilling depth is 2370’ and drilling ahead. This wildcat well is located approximately 2 miles from the nearest production in the recently discovered Murfin Drilling “Towns Field”.


April 27, 2011
The A-R Unit #1 reached  RTD today at a depth of 3500’. Preparations are underway to run open hole electric logs, followed by the running and cementing of production casing.


April 20, 2011
Southwind Drilling, Inc. Rig #4 spud the A-R Unit #1 today. The well is scheduled to be drilled to an estimated RTD of 3500’.


April 17, 2011

Production casing has been run and cemented on the Hubert Keil #4 (2100’ FSL; 330’ FWL Sec. 32-T15S-R14W) in Russell County, KS.  The well reached RTD in the Arbuckle formation at a depth of 3500’. Express Well Service, Inc., Victoria, KS, is scheduled to begin completion services on May 2 weather permitting. Various oil shows were noted within the Lansing-Kansas City formation.

The Kansas Oil & Gas Museum Foundation in Great Bend, KS has inducted one of our long time investors into the  Kansas Oil & Gas Hall of Fame.  Marvin L. Ratts, Russell, Kansas, was honored  at the prestigious triennial Kansas Oil & Gas Hall of Fame Awards Banquet.

Notice of the Intent to Drill has been filed by Russell Oil, Inc. and approved by the Kansas Corporation Commission for three wells scheduled to drill in April and May, 2011.

In Barton County, KS the A-R Unit #1 is scheduled in April with Southwind Drilling, Inc. providing rotary tools. The location is 2700’ FSL; 2310’ FWL in Sec. 1-T16S-R15W. The A-R Unit #1 is permitted to a RTD of 3500’. This well is an extension attempt to the established Galatia North field.

In Thomas County, KS, Wichita based H2 Drilling, LLC Rig #2 will be providing rotary tools on the Anderson #1-31 (2290’ FSL; 1810 FWL Sec. 31-T10S-R34W). Projected RTD is 4800’ in the Mississippian formation. This wildcat well is located approximately 2 miles southwest of the recently discovered Murfin Drilling, Inc. Towns Field, and 4 miles west of the Russell Oil, Inc. Seele Field.

In McPherson County, KS Southwind Drilling, Inc. is scheduled to provide rotary tools for the Enochs #1located in the S/2 SW/4 NE/4 of Sec. 19-T20S-R5W. Projected RTD is 3400’ in the Mississippian formation. The Enochs #1 is located within the prolific Welch-Barnholdt Field.


April 7, 2011

Drilling commenced today on the Hubert Keil #4 (2100’ FSL; 330’ FWL Sec. 32-T15S-R14W) located one-half mile south of the town of Milberger in Russell County, Kansas. Projected rotary total depth is 3500’. Southwind Drilling, Inc. Rig #4 is providing rotary tools over the hole. Steven Angle, Hays, KS, is providing well site geological supervision.


March 19, 2011

The Seele D #1-36 was plugged and abandoned as a dry hole. The well reached a rotary total depth (RTD) of 4820’ in the Mississippian formation. The Seele D #1-36 was an attempt to extend the northern boundary of the Seele Field.


March 16, 2011
Southwind Drilling Rig #1 is drilling ahead on the Seele D #1-36 (880’ FNL; 1420’ FWL Sec. 36-T10S-R34W, Thomas County, KS). The well, spud March 10, 2011 attempts to extend the Seele Field discovered by Russell Oil, Inc. in October 2008. Projected total depth is 4800’ in the Mississippian formation. Steven P. Murphy will provide well site geological supervision.


February 24, 2011

Next month marks the 90th birthday for one of the original investors with Russell Oil, Inc. Edwin W. Olson, Russell, KS, turns 90 years old on March 2, 2011. Mr. Olson became an investor with Russell Oil, Inc. in 1987 and has been a regular investor for the past 24 years. Eddie’s support, advice and influence through the years have always been  appreciated. It has been an honor to be associated with Mr. Olson and we wish him good health and a Happy Birthday.

The Keil A #2-32 was placed into production today. The well is producing and undisclosed volume of crude from undisclosed Lansing-Kansas City perforations.  Express Well Service, Victoria, KS, provided the completion rig services.


February 8, 2011

Plugging operations were concluded today on the Grecian Trust #1-30. The well was plugged and abandoned as a dry hole at a rotary total depth of 4000’ in the Arbuckle formation. Southwind Rig #1 rotary tools cut the hole. The well was under the well site geological supervision of Steven Angle.

Southwind Drilling, Inc moved Rig #1 rotary tools to the Grecian Trust #1-30 (330’ FNL; 330’ FEL Sec. 30-T10S-R21W, Graham County, KS). The Grecian Trust #1-30 test is located in the Wheeler South field and targets Kansas City, Conglomerate and Arbuckle pay zones.


January 27, 2011

Production casing was run today on the Keil A #2-32.Completion tools are scheduled to move in the week of February 7, 2011 to tail in the new well.


January 22, 2011

Russell Oil announced today the results of the recent work over on the Seele A #1-35 producer located in Sec. 35-T10S-R34W, Thomas County, KS. Previous producing zones have been isolated and new zone perforated during a work over that ending January 14, 2011. Initial production from the new undisclosed zone is reported at 64 barrel oil, 30 barrel water per day.


January 20, 2011

The Seele C Unit #1 (2690’FSL; 990’ FWL Sec. 36-T10S-R34W) in Thomas County, KS was completed January 7, 2011. The well was equipped and placed on production January 18, 2011. The well was completed from an undisclosed formation for an initial production rate of 30 barrels of oil, 18 barrel water. Additional zones were tested and remain behind pipe. Express Well Service, Victoria, KS provided completion tools.


January 19, 2011

Southwind Drilling, Inc. Rig #1, Frank Rome tool pusher, moved in and spud the Keil A #2-32 today. The well is targeting potential Lansing-Kansas City and Arbuckle production. The well is a development well on the Keil A lease located in the S/2 NE/4 Sec. 32-T15S-R14W, Russell County, one-half mile east of Milberger, KS.

In other news, Russell Oil, Inc. is preparing to assume operations of seven oil leases operated by LeRoy Holt Oil Operations in central Kansas. Operations will transfer effective February 1, 2011.

The Laura #1-2 (874’ FNL; 1226’ FWL Sec. 2-T11S-R23W, Trego County, KS) was spud on January 2, 2010. The well is currently drilling at 3700’. The well has a projected total depth of 4100’. Southwind Drilling, Inc. Rig #1 is on location. Gas/Hydrocarbon detection equipment is provided by Kevin Bailey of GeoCertified, LLC. Steven D. Angle is well site geologist.
